A clean rental can still have an appliance problem

During a rental turnover, keep cleaning completion separate from any observed appliance problem. Ask for the symptom and location to be reported without attempted repairs, assign maintenance follow-up, and let the host decide what it means for the arriving guest. A finished cleaning checklist does not establish that every appliance works.

That’s the turnover in one piece. If you’d rather the calendar took care of itself between guests, tell us the unit and your checkout window and we’ll send a price per turnover.

Report what was observed

Use a concrete description: dishwasher displayed an error during the agreed task, or refrigerator door would not close normally. Avoid turning that observation into a diagnosis. Identify the appliance and property, and share a relevant image only if it can be obtained safely. The host can forward the symptom to an appropriate maintenance contact without asking cleaning staff to dismantle, reconnect, or repeatedly test unfamiliar equipment.

State how the issue affected the reset

Record any cleaning task left incomplete because of the problem. If the agreed dishwashing step could not finish, say that instead of marking the kitchen fully reset. Ask the host to approve any feasible alternative within the provider's scope. Keep used items, unavailable amenities, and maintenance access visible in the handoff notes. Do not conceal the exception behind a photograph of an otherwise tidy room.

Leave the arrival decision with the host

The host should confirm repair arrangements and decide what information or changes the next guest needs. If maintenance enters after cleaning, note the affected areas and discuss any follow-up work separately. Close the appliance issue through the responsible maintenance process, not by deleting it from the turnover checklist. A useful handoff can say cleaning complete in the agreed rooms while an appliance issue remains open; those are two different statuses.

Published scope and the limits of this guide

The published JAS scope says: “Strip & replace all linens” — Read the source service page

Turnover cleaning does not certify appliance operation, perform repairs, determine guest compensation, or decide whether an unresolved defect permits occupancy.

Frequently asked questions

Does a turnover include testing every appliance?

Ask what observations or checks are actually agreed. Do not assume a cleaning visit includes a technical inspection or certification of equipment operation.

Should staff reset a faulty appliance?

Keep troubleshooting with the authorized maintenance contact. The provider should report the issue and its effect on agreed tasks rather than improvise an equipment repair.

Can the host still mark the property ready?

That is a host decision informed by the unresolved issue and the accommodation being offered. Cleaning completion alone should not be used to make it.
