The hidden fees to watch for with cleaning services

J
JAS Cleaning
FROM THE OPERATING PLAYBOOK · ES / EN

Check six lines before you book any cleaning service: supplies, parking or building access, pets, cancellation, weekend and after-hours premiums, and card surcharges. Any one of them can turn a friendly quote into a bigger invoice. At JAS, every one of those answers is published — supplies are included, the only cancellation fee is $25 inside 24 hours, and any schedule surcharge is itemized on your quote before you confirm. Here is the full list, with what to ask any company — us included.

Where hidden fees come from

A hidden fee needs somewhere to hide, and that somewhere is almost always a vague price: an hourly rate with no cap, a scope nobody wrote down, a “we’ll see when we get there.” If the pricing model itself is what worries you, we compared the two honestly in hourly vs flat-rate house cleaning. The other root is economic: most of a legitimate cleaning price is labor, insurance, and drive time — we walked through that anatomy in why are house cleaning services so expensive? — so a company that undercuts everyone has to claw the margin back somewhere. The lines below are exactly where.

The six lines — and JAS’s published answer to each

An add-on you chose is not a hidden fee

Two things get mixed up here, and they shouldn’t be. Inside the oven, inside the fridge, or interior windows are scope you buy, priced in front of you before you confirm — they have their own article in what do cleaning add-ons cost? What separates an honest charge from a hidden one is not the amount: it is timing and consent. An honest extra shows up before you say yes; a hidden fee shows up after. That is why the scope-change sentence in JAS’s terms ends the way it does: if the job on arrival is materially different, it gets re-quoted with you before any extra work — “never silently.”

Questions about your place specifically? No need to finish the article — call, text, WhatsApp, or email us and we’ll take it from here.

How to pressure-test any quote

Three questions, in writing: what exactly does the total include? What can change it after I book? What does cancelling cost? A transparent company answers from published pages, not from memory — and the right buying order is the one JAS puts in its own terms: “We price before you commit: you request a quote, see it, and then request a time.” If a company cannot show you the whole number before you commit, that is your answer.

FAQ

Does JAS charge a cancellation fee?

Only inside 24 hours. Cancel or reschedule free up to 24 hours before your appointment; inside that window a $25 cancellation fee applies, and a lockout — the team arrives and cannot get in — may be treated as a late cancellation. A reschedule JAS initiates never costs you a fee.

Is there a weekend or night surcharge?

There is no weekend surcharge — a Saturday morning prices the same as a Tuesday morning. The two schedule surcharges that exist are printed on the estimate before you confirm: a start less than 24 hours away adds 25%, and a start in the 7pm–7am late-hours window adds 50%. When both apply they add together, never multiply.

Can the invoice come out higher than the quote?

Only by applicable taxes or by additions you approved. The published terms say the invoice is for the quoted amount plus those two things — and if the scope on arrival is materially different, JAS re-quotes with you before doing extra work, never silently.
