What Mint Hill brings
Settled by Scots-Irish families around 1750 and the first town created in Mecklenburg County, Mint Hill gave up its charter in 1910 and reincorporated only in 1971, so its 24.81 square miles run to large wooded lots and newer subdivisions — 10,302 housing units at the 2020 census, 4.6% vacant, with population up 16% over the decade to 26,450. Sitting at 768 feet on a ridge that drains west toward McAlpine Creek and east toward Clear Creek, it is clay-heavy, tree-shaded ground where tracked-in mud, spring pollen and long humid summers do most of the damage.
