Cleaning services in
Laurelhurst, WA.

Slow to build out for want of a streetcar line after McLaughlin Realty Company platted it between 1906 and 1909 and Seattle annexed it in 1910, Laurelhurst fills a peninsula pushing into Lake Washington with Union Bay on its southwest side, shoreline the 1916 ship canal reshaped by lowering the lake. Early-century houses raised before air conditioning, on lots held in shade by mature trees, take the full October-to-March damp: bath and north-sill mildew, moss and algae on walkways and shaded roof planes, rain-tracked grit from beach and park paths, and low winter light that shows every streak on lake-facing glass.

Employment here is institutional rather than retail: Seattle Children's occupies the neighborhood's northwest corner at 4800 Sand Point Way NE with 423 hospital beds and a network of 45 regional, specialty clinic and outreach sites, while the University of Washington's East Campus — Husky Stadium, the Center for Urban Horticulture and the Union Bay Natural Area — runs east from Montlake Boulevard NE to Laurelhurst's western edge at Mary Gates Memorial Drive NE, part of a university that counts 51,719 students and 34,668 campus and health-system employees across all its campuses and medical centers.
