What Pemberton Heights brings
Twelve sections platted from 1927 onward — Wooldridge, Harris, Jarratt and Westover first, then Claire in 1935, Wathen in 1936 and Pemberton Place in 1945 — filled the ground between MoPac and Shoal Creek with 613 residences, the largest houses on the most spacious lots in the Old West Austin Historic District, listed on the National Register in September 2003 and January 2004 with about 1,574 historically significant properties. One- and two-story pre-war houses on those oak-shaded lots take on live-oak pollen and leaf drop, Ashe juniper dust from December through February, and hard-water film on glass and tile.
Essentially none: the neighborhood is wholly residential between MoPac on the west and Shoal Creek and Lamar Boulevard on the east, its only non-residential ground being the Shoal Creek Trail alongside it, whose pedestrian bridge was dedicated in 2006, Hartford Park, which neighbors began carving out of an overgrown traffic triangle at Hartford Road, Ethridge Avenue and Jefferson Street in 2012, and the landscaped traffic triangles scattered through the streets.
