How a home cleaning service works, step by step

A home cleaning service works in five steps: you describe your home and request a quote, you see the price before committing, you request a time, a background-checked team cleans to a written checklist, and you pay after the visit from an invoice. With JAS there is no payment at booking, and eligible completed visits end with a photo-verified CleanCheck report.

That is the whole shape of it. What trips people up is not the cleaning — it is not knowing what happens between “I want my house cleaned” and “someone is in my kitchen.” So here is the sequence the way it actually runs, using our own published process as the example.

Step 1: You describe the home and see a price

Every legitimate service starts by asking about the property: how many bedrooms and bathrooms, house or condo, roughly how it has been kept, and whether you want extras like inside the oven or the refrigerator. Those answers set the price. On our side, residential cleaning is published starting at $189 for a 2–3 hour visit with a 2-person team, and the Terms state the order plainly: you request a quote, see it, and then request a time. Until we verify the payment method on file and confirm your slot, it is a request — you have committed to nothing.

One honest caveat worth knowing industry-wide: a quote reflects what you told the company. If the scope on arrival is materially different — extra rooms, heavy build-up — a serious company re-quotes with you before doing extra work, never silently. Ask any provider how they handle that moment before you book.

Step 2: You pick a time — and Miami adds a wrinkle

You choose an arrival window that fits your week. In Miami, condo living adds one step most guides skip: many buildings require vendors to register with the front desk, and some limit service elevators to certain hours. If you live in a tower in Brickell, Edgewater, or Sunny Isles, tell your building the cleaning company is coming — it takes two minutes and prevents the team losing thirty at the loading dock.

You also do not need to be home. Access can be a code, a key, a smart-lock invite, or someone at the door — whatever you arrange. If the team arrives and cannot get in, most companies (ours included) treat it as a late cancellation, so it pays to get access right.

Step 3: The team cleans to a checklist, not a vibe

The difference between a professional visit and “someone tidying” is a defined scope. Our standard residential visit covers 28 items verified by photo — kitchens, bathrooms, floors, surfaces, the things that make a home feel reset. Supplies and equipment come with the team.

Before the visit, a little preparation goes a long way: clear the counters of personal items, pick up clothes and toys, and secure pets. That is tidying, not cleaning — it buys the team time for the work you are actually paying for. We wrote a separate guide on how to prep your house before the cleaners come if you want the full list.

Step 4: Proof, then payment

This is where services differ most. In our flow there is no payment at booking. After each completed visit we issue an invoice for the quoted amount plus anything you approved along the way, and email a secure hosted payment link. The paid invoice is your receipt. Eligible completed visits also include a CleanCheck report — verified checklist items with customer-safe photos — so you can see what was done even if you were at work the whole time. Wherever you book, prefer companies that put payment after the work; it aligns everyone’s incentives.

Step 5: Decide if it becomes a routine

One-time cleans exist, but most households that hire once end up on a rhythm — in Miami’s humidity, dust and bathroom film come back on a schedule of their own. Recurring plans are cheaper per visit; our HomeCare plans run up to 15% off. And a routine is not a trap: our published policy lets you cancel or reschedule free up to 24 hours before an appointment (a $25 fee applies inside 24 hours). The details are in our post on the 24-hour cancellation rule, and the residential cleaning page has the full scope and pricing.

FAQ

Do I pay before or after the cleaning?

With JAS, after — there is no payment at booking. An invoice with a secure payment link arrives once the visit is completed. Industry-wide, practices vary; be cautious with any provider demanding full payment upfront.

Do I have to be home during the visit?

No. Arrange access however you are comfortable — a code, key, smart-lock invite, or a neighbor. Many customers meet the team on the first visit and go keyless afterward.

What if I need to change the date?

Under our published Terms, changes are free up to 24 hours before the appointment; inside 24 hours a $25 fee applies. A reschedule we initiate is never charged.
