What King William & Southtown brings
Subdivided from former mission farmland between 1853 and 1866 and built up by German merchants — Ernst Hermann Altgelt raised the first house and named the streets for Prussia's King William I, and Alfred Giles designed the 1883 twin houses on King William Street — the district joined the National Register on January 20, 1972. Its tall-ceilinged masonry Victorians, deep porches and original wood sashes along the San Antonio River hold live-oak pollen and street dust in every reveal, and hard limestone water leaves scale on century-old fixtures.
H-E-B's corporate headquarters occupies the former San Antonio Arsenal on the river at the district's edge, where the grocer moved in 1985, and nearby in Southtown the Blue Star Arts Complex packs galleries — including Contemporary at Blue Star, the city's longest-running contemporary art space — together with studios, vintage and home-décor shops, restaurants and bars.
Office, building or storefront? Commercial cleaning covers those, with a free walkthrough and a price in writing.
