Oilman H. C. Thorman bought this ground from an Austrian count and platted it in the 1920s as an exclusive suburb, and the 0.6-square-mile town of 2,180 still reads that way — a park-like plan of oak-lined streets and large 1920s estates penned in by US 281 and McCullough Road.
