What Terrell Hills brings
Laid out from 1919 on ground sold by former San Antonio mayor Frederick Terrell, incorporated in 1939 and more than doubled through the 1950s, Terrell Hills fits 1,993 housing units into 1.61 square miles — about half an acre per house. The result is large 1920s-to-1950s houses on generous lots between Alamo Heights and the Fort Sam Houston post, where original tile and glass film over fast under very hard Edwards Aquifer water and Ashe juniper pollen blows in from mid-December through early March.
There is essentially no commercial base here: inside the city limits sit St. David's Episcopal Church & School at 1300 Wiltshire Avenue and the city hall, and very little else, with the nearest concentration of jobs at Joint Base San Antonio–Fort Sam Houston immediately east, where more than 27,000 military and civilian personnel work.
